Preliminary Task- Front Cover & Contents Page
I have created my preliminary task on Microsoft publisher and used photos i had taken myself the day before. I have made a cover and contents page.
In my actual magazine i would pick a better font as it would attract more towards my target audience. I would also like to use a different font colour as it doesn't really stand out in front of the light from the window. I think it looks rather boring so i would add a skyline on the top advertising something within the magazine to add entice the reader.
On my magazine I would put more images in to spice the page up a bit. Again i would change the font and its colour to make it more readable & exciting. I would have the magazine logo next to the masthead as well.

Photoshop Skills Development
This is my image of Jarvis Cocker in Photoshop. First, I opened the file in Photoshop and duplicated it. I then used the magic wand tool and deleted the background on the copy of my original image. Then I added in my coloured background in and added text. Finally I added the barcode on and saved it as a .jpg file.

Preliminary Task Flat Plans
I have created two flat plans for my preliminary task on Microsoft Publisher.
In my magazine cover flat plan i have put a Skyline to attract an audience at first glance. This is also the reason I have placed my Masthead at the top of the page. I have put the Main Image to almost cover the front page as it will attract the main target audience. The main coverline will link to the main image and the sub-head will explain this. Other coverlines will describe what else is in the magazine. The essential info is at the to let the reader know what the price is straight away as i would like it to be cheap.
I have set the contents page up like this because i think it looks structured and is easy to navigate. The images along side the contents will correspond with at least one of the pages in that three page section.

Music Magazine Cover Deconstructions
I have deconstructed 3 different magazine front covers on Microsoft PowerPoint. I put my slides on slideshare.co.uk and have uploaded them onto this post.
Inspirational Texts
I have been researching and thinking about the types of artists that are going to be in my magazine.
During the making of this post I have decided to change my idea from classic rock to jazz. I have made this decision because I personally think it is better. However, I have also made this change because they're not many jazz magazines available. I have made a mosaic on bighugelabs.com to present images which are relevant to my topic.

Main features of a magazine cover.
Masthead/Title- This is the name of the magazine. Usually at the top left and it tells you what magazine it is.
Main Coverline- This is the main story. Draws in the target audience using an enigma.
Coverlines- These are other storys in the magazine. Covers other. less important topics.
Sub-head- Explains the main coverline.
Main image- Accompanies main coverline.

Media Foundation Portfolio Brief.
Print Brief
You must complete two linked tasks. The set brief is as follows:
Preliminary exercise: using DTP and an image manipulation program, produce the front page of a new school/college magazine, featuring a photograph of a student in medium close-up plus some appropriately laid-out text and a masthead. Additionally you must produce a mock-up of the layout of the contents page to demonstrate your grasp of DTP.
Main task: the front page, contents and double page spread of a new music magazine (if done as a group task, each member of the group must produce an individual edition of the magazine, following the same house style).
All images and text used must be original, produced by the candidate(s), minimum of four images per candidate.
